WER 2016 UAE regional contest was taken place on Apr.15th in Dubai. The winning teams will participate in the 2016 WER America Open in August and the 2016 WER World Final in November in Shanghai, China.

2016 WER U.S. Open Successfully Concluded
Abilix Becomes the Global Sponsor of WER
2016 World Educational Robotics (WER) Contest held on 13-14 August at the California State University Los Angles was a great success. Approximately 200 students from various regions in China and 60 students from the local Los Angeles area schools ages 10-16 competed in six areas. After undergoing fierce competition, the representative team from Guangxi Province, China emerged champion in the primary division, while the representative team from Zhejiang Province, China came first in the Middle and high school division, each contestant of which would be awarded scholarship offered by Abilix Robotics.

As Jake Mendelssohn introduced: “What this contest is really about is problem-solving. And the students are learning how to put together the pieces, put things together, work as a team and then figure out solutions. That’s one of the most important skills they need in the real world.”

Mr. Lan Zhijun pointed out that educational robot can systematically cultivate students’ creative ability, analytical ability and practical ability, which lays the foundation of their way to success. WER, which is the one of the best educational robotics contest in terms of the scale, projects and the educational value it conveys, plays a critical role in promoting the development and popularity of the educational robot and helping teens and preteens improve their science literacy and success ability.”

According to people concerned, the theme of the 2016 WER is “Move the Earth”. The contestants will be categorized into primary division and secondary division. Abilix is appointed as the exclusive equipment sponsor. The contest consists of preset tasks and secret tasks, which accounts for 40% and 60% respectively of the total points. The preset tasks will be revealed to the participants before the contest, which means students have enough time to prepare for it, on the other hand, the tasks will be of a higher level of difficulty compared to the task unknown. As for the secret tasks, they will be issued two hours before the contest starts. Students need to analyze the tasks, design the routes, program and debug the robot without any instructions from coaches, which also makes the contest more fair and challenging.
It’s learned that the WER consists of WER Municipal Contest, WER Provincial (State) Contest, WER National Contest, and WER Global Finals. Over 300,000 contestants from 30 countries took part in WER trials this season. The winners of the two competitions will compete against each other in the 2016 WER Global Finals, which will be held on 19-20th November in National Exhibition and Convention Center Shanghai, China.
2016 WER Canada Open Wrapped Up
2016 WER Canada Open successfully concluded in Vancouver, Canada. This contest attracted hundreds of talents from Canada, US, China, UK and so on. The teams from China won the secondary school division champion and middle and high school division champion in the Brick Robot Contest. The runner-up of the secondary division and the third prize of the middle and high school went to the Canada teams. Each contestant of the champion team would be awarded scholarship from Abilix.

Dr. Chris Zhang, president of WER Canada and Canada Youth Robotics Club, Mr. Li Canming, Senator of BC, Gregor Robertson, senator of Vancouver, Overseas Chinese Consul Mr. Hu Shaocong, People’s Republic of China Consulate General in Vancouver Consul General, Lan Zhijun, C.E.O of Abilix Robotics attended this event. Gregor Robertson, mayor of Vancouver sent his greetings to contestants and WER contest via his congratulatory letter. The confidence and dauntless spirits that contestants conveyed during the competition made a deep impression on Dr. Chris Zhang, who fully affirmed the positive significance of WER in teens and preteens’ science literacy cultivation.

Dr. Chris Zhang points out that what WER emphasizes is the justice and equity, namely it is the students, not the teachers, who are actually competing in the educational robot contest. Contestants need to analyze the tasks, design projects, program and debug the robot without coaches’ instructions. Meanwhile, WER adopts Abilix educational robot as the official platform to avoid unfair outcomes that caused by variations of equipment. As the creator and leader of the global educational robot, Abilix aims to nurture teens and preteens’ success ability (the balance of analysis, creativity and application capacities) and improve their science literacy, which tallies with the educational concept of WER.

2015 WER China Championship Successfully Concluded
2015 WER China Championship was successfully concluded on Nov.29, 2015 in Tsinghua University, Beijing. This contest attracted more than 500 teams, including 1500 contestants from 28 provinces and teams from abroad.
After two days’ fierce competition, 18 awards for WER Ability Contest (RA) and WER Innovation Contest (RI) were presented, among whom won the awards would have the opportunity to participate in the WER U.S Open and WER Swiss Open, which will be held in July and October, 2016 respectively.

Invitation of 2015 WER Chinese Championship
Introduction：
WER, an acronym for World Educational Robot Contest, was founded and organized by Federation of World Educational Robot. 2015 WER Chinese Championship is scheduled to be held in November 28th – 29th.
Teams that participate in the contest should consist of 2 to 10 participants who will design, build and run their robot made to complete the tasks together. WER encourages teamwork. Participating in the contest as a team will help them find their roles in the team. To encourage teenagers to work on different tasks in a team will help enhance their sense of honor and duty.
Besides, the extra task, which requires each team of participants to complete without teacher’s help, will be released 2 hours before the contest formally begins. For different divisions, there will be different rounds of contest, like Skill Interview, Extended Task, Thesis Defense, Team Contest, Poster Selection etc., each one of which contains certain amount of points. The winning team will be determined by its total points. The reason why we only release some tasks on-site is for keeping the contest fair and testing participants‘ abilities to solve problems independently with the knowledge they’ve learned.

WER 2015 Canadian Championships Concluded Successfully in Vancouver
Vancouver, Canada — 2015 WER (World Educational Robot) Canadian Championship, exclusively sponsored by Abilix Educational Robot, was successfully concluded in UBC（University of British Columbia） on July 5-6th, 2015. This contest is organized by Federation of World Educational Robot, and supported by Canadian Youth Robotics Club, attracting more than 100 teams from countries like America, China, Canada, Britain, India, Saudi Arabia etc. Liu Fei (Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver), Professor Jake Mendelssohn (vice-president of the WER America Division), Richard T. Lee (MPP in British Columbia), Chris (president of Federation of World Educational Robot), Lan Zhijun (general manager of Abilix) attended the opening ceremony.
